Eatery Review : nami sushi

Hi All,
Another Eatery Review! Sorry guys apart from eating I’m not doing much else. But hey, I hope you’re enjoying them.

Last weekend I took a trip to Lancaster to see my oldest friend; Alexandra. We had a great time nattering and catching up on all things old and new.

We headed for an early dinner at nani sushi in the heart of the quaint city around 5pm. The restaurant was as expected, quiet for the time, but was beautifully lit with the sunshine and the perfect way to enjoy the last of the days sun.

After sitting down at the sushi bar a gentleman came over with some menus. We ordered the Saki(plum wine) and two beers. Now im not suggesting I need help to read a menu because I don’t, and I am a seasoned sushi eater, but I honestly feel a little guidance at this point wouldn’t of gone-a-miss. Unlike Yo! Sushi the menu is a standard menu and what I mean by this is there isn’t a picture to show you what things look like, so when you’re trying to work out what’s what you’re a bit blind.
A lot of sushi I am very familiar with so I picked a couple of dishes off the belt while we decided what to have made to order. Including a sort of seaweed type dish and it was sooo delicious!! Again, if the menu had pictures I’d be able to tell you its name. After a few dishes we ordered a Chicken noodle dish & a Prawn Noodle dish and having been to other establishments where they’re pretty small, we were expecting the same. Think again; they were huge!! So again, maybe a short briefing when presenting the menu that would’ve been great.

Only a short post today but I have to say Plum Wine & Miso Soup is such a brilliant combination(obviously not in the same cup)

Eatery Review : The Foundry Project

So for the mother in laws birthday we picked Foundry Project in Harrogate on The Ginnel, which is located in the centre of town.
We had an early sitting for a change and it was lovely to see when we arrived the outside terrace was full of people sitting in the last of sunshine.
The interior is like so amazing, it’s golds and brass, concrete and all the dark colours. Totally up my street!

I arrived thinking I’m having a Smoked Cherry Manhattan Cocktail, I left with one thought I didn’t like that at all. I also had some form of pink cocktail but safe to say I didn’t enjoy that either. So the birthday girl got a few cocktail to enjoy. My gran ordered a procecco which came flat to start with but they soon put it right with a fresh glass. The boys had nothing to talk about…sorry guys.
After the cocktails the place had gone down in my expectations so when the starters came I was overly shocked and agreed that the nachos were totally incredible. We shared the garlic dough balls, tomato and Parmesan dough balls, nachos, fried pickels and caramel and chilli chicken wings. And it was served and tasted AMAZING!!!! Like literally, I have never want to eat nachos so much that doesn’t have guacamole on them. They had the perfect crunch and those chips at the bottom didn’t go soggy even with a mass of sauce on top! The wings were really sweet and hot all that the same time. And pickles were different and super amazing with the blue cheese Mayo. The dough were amazing so much garlic!!!!!

So my opinion was definitely raised and then the mains came. I order the Mozzerella and Tomato Pizza, Jimboh had the Beef Ragu, MIL shared a Jerk Chicken and Salad with Gran and Will had a burger. We had some house fries and slaw to share. Let’s just say I’ve had better and if you can call the slaw – slaw I am shocked it was more of a crunchy dip. Far to much sauce. You couldn’t even see the vegetable shards. The pizzas were sloppy and well I just didn’t think it was great. But the burger was the bees knees! Very impressive.

None of us had desserts but the menu was pretty decent all the same. Would I return? Yes but I’d be getting the starter and just having it all to myself as a main.

Eatery Review : Friends of Ham Ilkley

Hi All,
Another eatery review coming at you!
Sorry to mention it again, it was my birthday last week!!! So we went to Friends of Ham in Ilkley, just located on a side road up from Pizza Express.

Taking the few steps upto the bar area it’s ever so cute inside; a bar straight ahead, a few tables and where they prepared the amazing food! We sat in the back room with the huge bay window. My favourite couple were there as a big surprise which was lovely, along with my family who were supposed to be a surprise but they obviously can’t keep secrets (truth be told none of them can lie ).

Birthday balloons and procecco for the table but mainly for me, it’s fermented in the bottle which means it’s drier than normal and also cloudier than I’m used to but I drank it all the same.

The interior is so chic, with lush leather, velvet soft furnishings along with big mirrors and even bigger light fittings. The atmosphere is so relaxed with board games and card games available to enjoy the day right through. I felt like lingering was encouraged here.

Moving onto the food, even the menus are made of pig or something animal. Definitely not for a veggy! The menu isn’t massive but perfectly formed. There’s plenty of option in all area, cheese, meat, wine and beer. With even more selections written on the mirror.

We had a strong cheddar, the Gorgonzola, the ham that they so lovingly cut of the bone and a even thinner that pastrami beef and it was all amazing. We also tried the pig cheeks ‘Baths Chaps’ wow that’s some lush stuff. My family enjoyed much of the same but some had the Ploughmans and my dad even said the pork pie was the best he’s ever had.

There were a few items they didn’t have on the day, but to be honest it was a massive problem and that sort of added charm.

My only note to add would be if Friends of Ham is a Complete Ham Board which is basically one of everything and they just worked on timings it to the number people at the table I think that would just be even better.

Product Review : Cheese Postie

So for part of my birthday presents I asked for subscription boxes, why because there awesome I really love getting items in the post and it’s even better when your not sure of the item your receiving but it’s in a genre you enjoy.
So when a friend Mr Briggs explained the concept of Cheese Postie we knew it was something right down our alley. And what better way to receive it than in a birthday present.
So for those of you unaware of the process, you can either sign up for weekly, fortnightly or monthly. Or just send one as a gift and they will arrive on the following Thursday. And once the box arrives you open up a toastie surprise, there bread, butter, a toastie bag, and a filling either savoury or sweet.
They do all the hard work so you get the enjoyment of simple assembling and toasting.
My first box arrived on my birthday eve! And it was probably the best surprise as I was contemplating taking a stroll for some lunch. But this beautiful long box was there to enjoy instead. The flavour of the week Goats Cheese, Bacon & a rich balsamic glaze. Perfect.
I lovely created this post wizardry and loved every second, apart from getting it in the toastie bag, ideally they need to be like 1cm bigger but hey.

A couple of minutes on the panini press and well it was scrummy!! And the best part while opening my presents it was revealed there might be a few more coming my way!!
I hope you’ll all consider a Cheese Postie for your loved ones next birthday!

Eatery Review : Tempest Arms

Hi All,
As part of team building for work and becuase I a. Love food and b. It was my birthday the following day, it made total sense to me to go out for dinner.
The Tempest Arms is nestled in the hills between Earby and Skipton, having been plenty of times it just made sense to enjoy a girls dinner here.
We called on Tuesday and were shocked they only had one table available for Thursday night…says so much!
Our table was booked for 6 and as we arrived the sun made his only appearance of the day! It’s such a cute location. And the interior is just as cute.
We arrived early and had a round of drinks on the boss, #bonus ! I had a pims and procecco which as lush as it was, needed to be sweeter. Loved the goblet tho.
The Resturant is so awesome because even though it’s rather large, where ever you sit you don’t feel like you just in a empty Resturant  (granted it didn’t last long at all) .
Janey, who’s a bit of a ledge wanted starters and mains. So we got Bert in a Box & there famous mushrooms to share with a plank of bread.
So like I cannot fault the mushrooms apart from bring me more, like 3 pots of them. They were so delish the perfect balance of creamy yet cheesey!! Coming onto the Bert in a Box which was delish and perfectly cooked but I thought the sort of play on words would have meant it arrived with more quirky, I realised Cambert comes in a like mini crate but I was hoping it was gonna come in a further box, I was thinking Jack in a Box. You couldn’t fault it’s gooeyness. And here’s a question, are you meant to eat the skin?
For mains, I had the special, I love that they have a daily Hyme Sheet, it shows really cooking talent. No chief should be restricted from season to season. The specials should always be exciting and new and the Tempest delivers. So I got the Duck(obviously) wow it was melt in the mouth. Possibly the best duck I’ve ever had! And the potato Roti, can the chief in charge of those batch them up and allow me to freeze them for like every meal!! Lucy had the lamb but admitted it was dry, we advised the waitress who did apologises. Janey had the fish pie, which she ate the whole thing and said she could eat it again it was simply that good. My Elizabeth had the steak and ale pie, as she is fighting tonsoliets she could barely eat it(now to go on the record I obviously want her to have 100% health) but the steak pie was incredible and we enjoyed finishing it for her.

We had no starters but we shared a couple bottles of wine, there wine list is serious!!
This place is such a home feel and the food is top. And if you have an upcoming event they have an adorable room at the back, just a note to add.
